ColdBox 1.2.0 Becomes 2.0.0 and License Change

Posted by Luis Majano
Feb 27, 2007 00:00:00 UTC
Due to the significant enhancements on ColdBox, the 1.2.0 release now becomes 2.0.0. Why?

Well, almost all of my planning for a major release have been done so that is why. I am migrating everything for this and I apologize for the confusions, but this release is deservant of its own version.

You can read more on this release at the Trac Site

Another important change with this release is a license change. I have moved the framework to an Apache 2 License. This is to facilitate organizations who would like to build on top of ColdBox. This will be a less constrictive license for users and better for the developers and organizations who use ColdBox.

Apart from the license duties, you must leave the copyright notices intact in the source code. A visible powered by coldbox logo or text is optional, and not mandatory. Also, please note that work on this project is of my free-will, so your donations go a long way to maintain this project alive. So you can Donate via paypal.

Thanks again for your support and stay tuned as more will be revealed in the following days as the launch of 2.0.0 gets near.

ColdBox Alternate Installation Methods

Posted by Luis Majano
Feb 27, 2007 00:00:00 UTC
I have just updated the install guide for Coldbox in which I define some alternate installation methods. I know not everybody has the same server setups and people need options. So I have written a very detailed guide on how to alter the files in order to accomodate different server installs. If you find a mistake in the process or you have found an alternate way of installation, please let me know. I will be very interested in it and I will pay you in "Monopoly Cash"

I hope this gives developers and system administrators and project managers a more relaxed approach to installing a software foundation like coldbox.

If you have any comments on this, you know where the comments button is.

Thanks.

ColdBox: How long should the Debug Cookie last?

Posted by Luis Majano
Feb 22, 2007 00:00:00 UTC
This is a question for you to answer. ColdBox supports the mode of being in debug mode or not. It does so, by placing a cookie on your browser so you can see the debugging panel only with that cookie set. The question is, how long should that cookie live? What should the expiration time be?

Any suggestions?

Finally you can test drive the up and coming ColdBox 1.2.0. There are so many improvements and enhancements to list here.

Below is a sample of the readme. The most notable improvements are IoC integration (coldspring/lightwire), ColdBox in-memory caching manager for event handler caching, plugin caching, custom plugin caching and custom data caching (Event template caching is coming...). The cache is unique, since it displays in the debugging panel the effectiveness of the cache in hits and misses, the amount of items in cache, what items are in the cache, and the reaping parameters. Event handler packages, datasource aliases, and much more.

1.2.0 Milestone Information

I will be updating all the guides this week for 1.2.0, so please be patient with me as there is considerable documentation for this release.

Please look at the samples gallery, and the most notable is the ColdBoxReader. It has been updated to a services architecture and also uses ColdSpring and ColdBox's new IOC plugin, so please check it out.

Well, just head out to the forums to get your brand new 1.2.0 beta.
